Greetings from Dhaka!
Just wanted to write to let everyone know I have arrived safely and gradually settling in to the chaos which is Dhaka.
I am half way through an 'in country orientation' program of Bangla lessons "ami Bangla shickti" (I am learning Bangla), salwar kameeze shopping (more details coming in a separate post), accommodation searching, local food sampling (yum!), stomach acclimatising (not so fun) and just generally taking in the sights, sounds, smells and vibes which make this place so amazing.
I feel like there is so much from this last week that I want to share - will hopefully get some time to get my thoughts and photos together and post some of my first impressions over the next few days.
Bye for now (note to self - still haven't learnt how to say bye in Bangla)

Quote of the Week
Just wanted to share my quote of the week regarding my trip to Bangladesh:
"If you are dishonest, there is no way you can end up in jail in Bangladesh. But if you are honest, there is a chance."
This was from a lovely Bangladeshi lady I met with yesterday who gave me a plethora of useful information. Considering I am the worst liar I know, I better be careful not to put myself in any tricky situations! :)

Preparing for Bangas
I received my travel itinerary today which has somehow made my upcoming adventure seem all the more real – what better way to celebrate than to set up a blog!?
In exactly 34 more sleeps I will depart Perth, Australia for Dhaka, Bangladesh, where I will be working as a Child Rights Advocacy Officer with SEEP (Social and Economic Enhancement Programme).
I have to admit that I am so absorbed at the moment with finishing up both my jobs, struggling to say goodbye to the youth I work with, finishing off uni assignments (2 to go!), catching up with everyone, packing up my unit, having a million and one vaccinations (ok 9) etc etc, that I haven’t had as much time as I would like to really prepare myself mentally for Bangladesh. In terms of background research, however, I am way more prepared than when I went to Uganda. In terms of other preparation (mental/emotional/etc), who knows until I get there… :)
My aim will be to keep this blog as up to date as possible – wish me luck!
